FARMHOUSE

We designed and built this house in 2019 on seven acres of high Colonial farmland, a few minutes from the ocean and Stonington Borough. It was created to honor the land's working heritage, to be self-sufficient and resilient, like our ancestors here.

They would have understood the basic technologies we employed — passive solar, bermed earth, stone, structural wood, steel and glass. Perhaps not the integrated solar electric and battery, the HRV systems, the geothermal wells or the Thermomass® concrete, but being practical Yankees they'd have appreciated the ways we can build homes now. We think you will, too.
